Week Two, Day Two!  I hope everyone is starting to get a hang of things.  Here is your menu for today.  If you missed any of the must do assignments from  yesterday, please scroll down to Monday’s post to get those done.  You have two must do assignments for today.  I need you to continue working on your writing and Scholastic News Assignments.

  2. Flocabulary Vocabulary Practice- Everyday you will spend some time on Flocabulary practicing vocabulary words.  Today, follow this link to get into Flocabulary.  If you have not signed into Flocabulary before find the blog post from yesterday and follow those instructions.  In Flocabulary you have five tasks to complete and a video to watch by Friday.  I recommend you watch the video everyday and complete one task. Today you should have two out of the five tasks completed.
  3. Must Do – Interesting Dinosaurs and Fossils Writing- Today you will be turning your circle map about dinosaurs and their fossils into a flee map.  Only worry about your three body paragraphs today. The three body paragraphs of your flee map will each be about a different dinosaur. Take all the information you have in your circle map about that dinosaur and add it under the body paragraph box.  Make sure to include transition words and a direct quote with a citation.
  4. Must Do- Scholastic News- Go to sn56.scholastic.com.  Log in.  The student password is Brokaw.  Today I would like you to read the magazine titled Stolen Gold from March 30th.  Click the magazine and then click open presentation view to be able to read the second  article titled Were You Fooled?. After you read the article follow this link to complete the Close Reading Questions.  Make sure to answer the questions using RACE.

Please email me if you have any questions.  Hope to see you on Zoom!

Wednesday, March 25th

Good morning!  We are at the halfway point for this week.  Thank you to everyone who has been keeping on top of the daily posts.  If you have not been, that’s okay.  You have all week to get the tasks assigned on Monday done.  Those are the main assignments for the week.  The rest of the days will just be a couple of little things.  Here is a short menu for today…

  1. Would you rather Wednesday Padlet– Answer the question would you rather be a wizard or a superhero in the padlet.  Make sure to give reasons to support your answer.  Bonus points if you use punctuation and capital letters.  Reply to at least two other students.  Make sure to end your reply by including your name.  Others won’t know who it is from unless you do.
  2. Nearpod Creative Writing– Go through the Nearpod slides and complete the creative writing assignment.  It doesn’t have to be long, maybe a paragraph or two, just be creative!
  3. Comment on this blog post the best and worst thing about online learning.  Click the title of the blog at the top of the post (Wednesday, March 25th) and then scroll down so you can see the comment button.

As always let me know if you have any questions!

  1. Check In– I want to hear how you are doing!
  2. Go back to the Padlet from yesterday.  If you have not had a chance to comment on other students posts you can now!  Remember, put your name in the comment so they know who they are talking to.
  3. Check out www.geoshow.tv.  The GeoShow is offering free virtual field trips this week.  See if there are any you are interested in watching!

As always email with any questions!  Miss you guys!

Week of Monday, March 23rd- Friday, March 27th

Hello!  Over the next couple of weeks, the blog will be one of our main forms of communication.  Think of this as your daily menu, not just for reading but for all of our subjects.  This menu is for the entire week.  Next week you will have a menu to complete daily.

  1. Go to Padlet – Think of this as our bell work writing.   Tell us how have you been, what have you been up to and how you are feeling about everything. Comment on at least two others students posts, with at least three complete sentences to get the conversations flowing. Be thoughtful and kind in your responses.  If someone comments on your post, write them back.
  2. Let’s get talking!-  Send Ms. Brokaw an email.  Click the Outlook icon below to follow the directions from the video Mrs. Hamman made if you need help to do so.  A great way to get in contact with me over the next few weeks is through email.  Please practice sending me an email.  You obviously don’t want to email Mrs. Hamman (well maybe you do but practice sending me one first😉).  My email is nicole.brokaw@husd.org.
  3. Check out Epic Books .  Our class code is etb1190.  Find your name.  It will ask you to set up an account to have access for the rest of the school year.  Enter your student email address to set it up.  Look through the books they have to see which you think would be good options for our digital book clubs.
  4. Go here to tell me which book(s) would be a good option for our digital book clubs.  Please make sure they are chapter books.  Let’s hear what you have to say!
  5. Play a Quizizz game.  This should  work like the Quizizz we have played together in class.  It has basic trivia just to practice.
  6. Read Blood, Smoke, and Freedom: A True Story of the American Revolution .
  7. Watch the I Survived Beyond the Battlefield Virtual Field Trip
  8. Go to FlipGrid .  Make sure you sign in with your school email address.  Record a video telling two things you learned from the I Survived Virtual Field Trip and one question you still have.
  9. Play a game on iCivics– if you need your username/password email Ms. Brokaw.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  I can’t wait to continue our digital learning next week and ‘see’ you all through different video chat options!
